Dear friend, I'm a new linux user. I have a prolem with my Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN card. Anyone could help? I see lot of links on web but could not help me anything. My notebook is Presario C700. P.S. I really want to say good bye to Windows but could not fix the last problem on Linux. Thank you. Kevin Tran

What linux distribution are you running? It's hard to direct you to the right information without knowing that. In brief, you probably either need the ath5k driver or ath9k. Also, the exact chipset of the card is helpful. Open a terminal and type "lspci | grep -i net" (without quotes). The output will look something like this: 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01). Hopefully it's not the AR242x, because that seems to be the most ornery of the bunch. Here is some more on getting info to effectively troubleshoot: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/wireless-internet/137532-wireless-setup-start-here.html

Heh, figures that would be the one. I pulled it from another forum I'm on, where a gentleman had the same problem. Basically, you need to add a driver called ath5k and block a couple of conflicting drivers. Instructions are in this thread: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ubuntu-help/143795-cant-get-wireless-support-my-toshiba-l305-s5933.html

Hi Reed, Finally I found the solution to fix my case. It's so simple than I thought. I use NDISWrapper to install Windows wireless device driver & then it works. Anyone who have the same problem, do visit https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/internet/C/ndiswrapper.html. Thank you Reed.

Glad you have it solved! Ndiswrapper is another option, certainly. I guess I forget about it sometimes because, well, why use windows drviers when there are linux drivers available. ;-)

The Windows drivers will be on the CD that came with the card.
