Instead of canning the distro, maybe you ought to have an Apache guru check out your configuration. Centos is a good distro, I wouldn't immediately suspect it as the root of the problem. What sort of problems are you having?

Yes, I doubt very much that CentOS is your problem, since it should be able to easily handle your load.

IMHO your best bet is Ubuntu, Fedora or Debian.

Fedara is best Linux operating system for Web servers. Fedora continually undergoes development and updates even after a major release so this may not make it so attractive to use on a mission critical server. Geocites

choice of the operating system for a web server should not depend on the operating system on your desktop. That is, if you use Windows on your home/office computer, it is not necessary to have the same operating system on your web server. Rather, your choice should depend on how you create your web site and the kind of applications you want to run on your web server. In general you can use Linux. They can provide more than 99% uptime even under heavy web traffic. By the way, if you are developing your web site in Microsoft FrontPage you are not restricted to the Windows Operating system - Linux servers provide FrontPage Extensions that help you seamlessly integrate your application.and the biggest advantage is that Linux is freely available. The internet pharmacy business is relatively new but it is growing strong, there are more and more people every year wanting to buy Viagra online and order other ed meds too at generic pharmacies that would rather get their medications cheap from an online pharmacy than having to pay the expensive prices they charge for the original brand names at local pharmacies. Order cheap Generic Viagra from the place where it’s really worth it to buy from safely, securely and totally anonymous. We recommend every one to buy Viagra online from a renowned pharmacy like ours that offers better quality and amazingly powerful results that let you experience incredible sex.
Fedara is really best Linux operating system for Web servers!
[Rant]Opinions are like asshats - everyone has one! Now, lets help this person sort out their web server problems and stop pushing/dissing different distributions of Linux, OK?[/Rant] I agree with [blank] and proopnarine in that this is probably a web server problem, a hardware problem, or an OS problem. Have you tried updating the web server software? Have you had your configuration checked by an Apache guru? Have you ran system diagnostics on your hardware to make sure you don't have a network port flaking out? Have you updated the OS itself with current driver patches, etc? There are a LOT of factors here, any one, or a number of which, may be causing or contributing to your problem. Simply replacing the OS is not likely to solve it and may cause many more problems than you are having now.
is sometimes hanging or not working properly.
So take a look in /var/log/messages and see what's going on. If you know an approximate time when it hung, grep the /var/log/messages for that date and time. If the webserver is hiccuping take a look at the server log. Not sure where RedHat (CentOS) puts it. I would think /var/log/apache2
