Subject: VMPlayer does not compile on Ubuntu 8.04
Has anyone succeeded in using VMPlayer (2.0.3 build 80004) on Ubuntu 8.04? When I tried to install it, it said that there is no pre-built vmmon module suitable for this kernel, and it tries to compile one and fails with some compilation errors. An identical question was posted (by someone else) to the VMWare forums but it has not been answered yet. Thanks, Amir

Usually installing vmware on a newer kernel requires two things, a compiler (gcc and friends) and the kernel source files, if the compilation begins and crashes after a while I think you need to install the source files. Good luck.

AJK, according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VMware/Player
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS: The installation of Vmware Player on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS is not yet supported by Vmware.
But this might be of some interest: http://czarism.com/easy-peasy-vmwareplayer-vmplayer-ubuntu-hardy-804 Cheers!

Also if u finally give up on trying to install vmware i recommend u to use the Sun VirtualBox software. Its free and ten times easier to install. Hope it helps. ~ R
