Weekly Wire meets Mark Shuttleworth at OSBC (video)

Last week Weekly Wire sent Roblimo to San Francisco for the Open Source Business Conference (OSBC). While there, he had a chance to talk briefly with Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth even though Mark was getting full "rock star" treatment from an adoring crowd and was totally mobbed by press and fans whenever he showed his face.

Charming. A rich guy like that and his mother cuts his hair.

Nice job! Did you use a video camera or a digital photo-cam that takes video?
He seems so different in this video. I definitely think he deserves the rock-star treatment, but he's already got the South African accent and enough money to buy his own island, so the politeness is just extra credit. Good job, Mark.

Slow news day? This is the very same video showed last week. Mark says nothing new. Very disappointing... :(

Where's Lisa? It's not a wire with our weekly dose of Lisa. Roblimo is not a substitute...

Thatas great. Mark should be betting this attention. He's the first person to ever make his millions off of pure OSS software. Oh wait.. No, thats not what happened. Whats that? Oh, he's been spending millions trying to get to the point where canonical is turning profit. Oh, whats that more? Its still not even self-sufficient yet? Well still. He went to space using only OSS software. Oh wait, nope not that either. So what did he do for OSS software? Oh Right!! He made the company that made Launch Pad. Well surely its OSS, oh.. wait. no. Its not either. Hrm.

This guy did make his money with open source. He started a company called Thawt that did digital certificates and encryption and he used open source software to make it and run his company (he used the debian distrobution). Then he sold his company to Verisign and thats how he got his money (or most of it).

Thank fully he's really put linux on the corporate map, and at the same time its a huge milestone for open source as it is sold on dells now!
