OSDL chief credits SCO, big business for Linux growth

It's been a big year for Portland, Ore.-based Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) -- doubling membership and broadening both support and market for Linux and open source development, but OSDL CEO Stuart Cohen credits a surprising factor in this year's Linux leaps: the SCO Group and its legal assault.
"I've said a number of times that I think the SCO lawsuit did more to accelerate the use of Linux than anything else," Cohen told NewsForge in a recent interview. "Because it forced every CIO, every CTO, and every general counsel and outside counsel to do due diligence on Linux and open source, and it came through with flying colors. So I think the SCO lawsuit really accelerated the use of Linux."
