Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex raises the bar

I'm blaming my hardware more than Ubuntu for my recent tests on Ubuntu 8.10. Performance is way down (it uses about 70-100 MB extra RAM while idle) and there are random bugs and issues everywhere. 8.04.1 was pretty good for me, but I've slowly tired of the little issues I run into every time. Obviously this isn't the only standard and other people have had no issues with 8.10, but I had to move on.

Now living happily in Debian Stable. I look forward to 9.04 nonetheless.
