Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex raises the bar

Posted by: Benjamin Huot on November 04, 2008 07:32 PM
I installed Xubuntu 8.10 on my Systemax PC with Intel Celeron D with 512 MB of RAM and integrated video works as well as the previous Xubuntu. On my new iMac I have a virtual machine of Ubuntu 8.10 which I downloaded as a vmware image so I didn't have to install it works great - I am giving it 512 MB of RAM. I installed everything I could possibly use and everything went very easily although for some reason Konqueror doesn't appear in my menus and then I updated it to OpenOffice.org 3.0, but I had to manually remove every part of Open Office.org in Synaptic and then install from the deb from the openoffice.org website and then it went ok and I got the menus in the applications menu. As far as KDE 4.1, I have it installed on Mac OS X and Konqueror and Okular work great. I also have a the latest PC-BSD 7 in vmware which has KDE 4.1 and it seems to work well. No crashes or lock ups and everything works as expected.
