First, the two articles are by different authors, so it is not that "I'm" positive about one and negative about the other. Second, I think Mayank did an excellent job on his XBMC piece, and if he concludes that the version he reported on isn't ready for prime time yet, then it isn't. Third, rather than "positive," I would say that my assessment of Boxee as an app is guarded at best -- see the section about the bugs and other problems for more. The article does say that I believe Boxee as a company is doing interesting things, but it also says definitely wait and see on the app. Fourth, as you suggest, a new, upcoming release certainly warrants a new review -- but it does not change anything about a current release, either. And fifth, yeah -- Boxee is a fork of XBMC. So it shouldn't be any surprise that one might exhibit more polish than the other, especially considering the fork's more limited scope.
