See also -- nice fontend for decent indexer/search engine (powering gmane), and very nice upstream indeed (one of my favourite among ~200 I maintain!). Locally it quite often lends more relevant results than domain-specific google search on my mail archive in part that concerns publicly posted and archived messages; the index is pretty compact too, e.g.:

5.6G mail/
360M doc/
7.6G .recoll/xapiandb
