sSMTP: A simple alternative to Sendmail

I don't think this is really a sendmail replacement. Exim, postfix, qmail all of those are. This is a just a way to forward your local mail to another smtp server. I use it for all of my inside boxes and just point it to my smtp server. Then all my mail filters through one box.
