Why not Git?

Git already supports distributed version control with tags, like Mercurial. However, Git also supports lightweight branching in which an individual developer's repository can contain multiple branches. Mercurial seems to require separate repositories to achieve the same thing, which isn't as nice.

Mercurial is still a big step up from Subversion, but it seems Git is an even better choice.
