Check out nexus if you want another free deathmatch game, equally as silly in gameplay. Check out openarena if you want a gpl-artwork remake of Quake3Arena.
Check out warsow if you want to see a great freesoftware game that has more polish and better design than most commercial releases. The quake2-based engine for warsow (qfusion) even puts q3 to shame. http://www.warsow.net
