The dangers of automatic updates

For whatever context is this article written? Work or leisure? I work with RHEL4 in my product environment and I have almost no SW installed that make Linux what it is: An efficient work environment from both command line and window manager. At home I run gentoo and I am suffering from the knowledge that KDE is in version 3.5.7 and not 3.3, many additional applications for KDE is not available from rhn. If the author of the article want to produce critisism vs. current package management, he should do so instead of tunneling his frustration towards those who take the risk to help Linux move on by doing those beta-testing tasks. For a production system I should agree that updating is on a need to do basis. At home, well who cares.Maybe the moderator of a linux mailing list........
