Interesting article praising Sun hardware and claiming that alternative hardware is crap. Reality may be different for different people. A company that I worked for had Sun because the maintenance contract had a 24h max replacement time of the hardware back up running. (special customer software not included). You won't get that from ASRock on their Mainboards, but if you look around you may find companies giving you AMD pizzaboxes for a reasonable price with reasonable lifetime. You always have to pay for good support. If you are running mission critical things on home-built PC hardware, I think that is more an isolated problem of yours, not the fact that free and open source software is developing. Updating is always good, but the updates have to go through testing, and that is what is currently missing in some of the free and open source projects available today.
