The dangers of automatic updates

I have to say, my favourite Linux distro (Mandriva) gives security and bug fixes in updates. No backports unless you set it up to include them. I did not know that other distros were so generous with their backports that they made them for all their recent releases. Of course source based distros would behave as you say as does Arch Linux. People running those distros are supposed to be able to fix them if necessary and should expect instabilities just like someone running Debian Sid.
