One question, though: why do you say the S2 IS doesn't have manual controls? I've had one for about 18 months, and I learned how to use shutter speed, aperture, and ISO on it before moving up to my SLR. In fact, I don't even know how to use the various other modes like portrait or night snapshot. Granted, they're not as easy to use, but they're there.
