IBM dives into OpenOffice.org development

OpenOffice has many unbearable bugs that need attending. Recently for instance I found it was not possible to to de-italicise a block of text (as unbelievable as that may sound). Similarly parts of documents that included text with URL's seem to retain a ghost of that URL much later, making it impossible to work in that part of the document without the text becoming a link.

The workarounds I've found for both situations are to open the ODF document in Abiword, save it, and re-open it in OO.

Load times need a speedup also.. and what about this default reliance on JAVA?

Looking forward to a super-usable OO.
