So what about wxWidgets?

I agree that portland won't be the silver bullet for this situation. Although, I find it interesting that no one has mentioned wxWidgets. wxWidgets already has a quite usable multiplatform API: Linux (GTK), OSX, Windows, and even some embedded devices. So why not make wxQT? I mean instead of reinventing the wheel here, why not take advantage of this existing framework and API? At least it wouldnt need a VM, unlike portland.
