I think your friend needs a slap up side his head. The thought of running "Mission Critical" software on a single hard drive is stupid to say the least. Why was this not running on a RAID array? Why did he not have a fully documented and tested Disaster Recovery plan? I think he should be looking for a new profession, he is obviously not suited for the IT industry.
