Yes, LaTeX is very nice, but then one day you get lazy and want to use more macros to speed up typing, then you switch to something evil. Emacs.

Then one day you are rescued from the darkside and start using LyX<nobr> <wbr></nobr>:-) Started with plain LaTeX, and moved to LyX when the first versions were out. I still use it, 10 years later, or what it can be.

I find the editing far superior of anything I've ever worked with, and let me just say that I've used all the good tools applixware, vim, ms word, etc. The input speed of formulas is incredible.

But as a LyX user, you still benefit a lot from knowing some LaTeX.
Use the tool you like best.

LyX and LaTeX will someday rule the world.
