Not all the same

I now know from my last machine that Linux will take a year before it works, mainly because of the new chips.

Based on my own experience, I don't agree. It depends on exactly what you have got. It's possible to pick new video cards that don't have good Linux drivers, but equally, it's possible to pick ones that do.

It's always a good idea to look at Linux support before buying. If more people did that, chipmakers would get the message from the marketplace.
